Do we need CMMC Level 2 or Level 1?

It depends on the data in your contracts, not your headcount. If you only receive Federal Contract Information — contract data that isn't for public release — Level 1 and an annual self-assessment is the path. The moment CUI (marked drawings, specs, technical data covered by DFARS 252.204-7012) is stored, processed, or transmitted on your systems, you are in Level 2 territory, and your contract language determines whether that's a self-assessment or a C3PAO certified assessment. The Gap Audit is where we read your actual flow-downs and tell you which one you're looking at.

How is this different from a full C3PAO assessment?

Completely different. A C3PAO is an accredited third party that performs the certified assessment and issues the decision — it is a paid, formal, multi-day engagement, and we are not a C3PAO. The Gap Audit is a free 45-minute readiness conversation with a senior engineer that tells you where you stand before you spend money on remediation or book an assessor. Think of it as the map, not the exam.

What should we prepare for the Gap Audit?

Nothing formal. It helps if you can pull up one DoD purchase order or prime agreement so we can read the flow-down clauses, and know roughly how your network is laid out — how many buildings, whether the plant floor is separated, and whether you're on Microsoft 365. If you already have an SSP, SPRS score, or a prime's questionnaire, bring them. If you have none of that, that's a normal starting point for an Ohio shop.
