Over the last two weeks Bitboyz had the pleasure of assisting Lutheran West High School in Rocky River Ohio, deploy a brand new 30 computer Mac lab.
All of the new iMacs all are equipped with both Final Cut Pro and Aperture for photography and video editing classes. The photography classes were started right away, while the Final Cut Pro classes are poised to begin sometime during the next school year. From the excitement and buzz we heard in the hallway, we could tell the students were very eager to start using the new computers.
Using Apple Remote Desktop, the teacher has full control over every computer in the entire classroom.
This next part is for our fellow nerds:
One the technical side we had to integrate the new OSX computers in to their current Microsoft centric infrastructure. We achieved this by editing the Active Directory Schema to support OSX preferences, rather than using the “magic golden triangle” method. We feel that this is a more reliable solution since the client computers don’t have to be bound to and rely on two separate domain controllers for logon and management policies. By editing the AD schema, AD can perform all the user authentication and storage of the user, group and computer management policies.
The integration and deployment went extremely well and we were ecstatic to be able to participate in a project that was obviously exciting for the school staff and the students.
